The service for Driscoll Tree Service was outstanding. Michael came out to meet with me, explained the pros and cons of how to deal with my tree removal, and provided a clear quote for the service. The crew that came out to do the work was on-time, professional and did a great job. One of the trees they had to remove was tall and in a spot where they couldn't get any heavy equipment to it, but they were able to take it down in pieces without damaging my landscaping or fence. If you are looking for a professional and competent tree service,  I definitely recommend calling Driscoll Tree Service.

Myths About Tree Care

Maintaining healthy trees requires proper care practices. Whether you prefer a hands-on approach or hiring tree service providers, regular care is essential for the trees’ overall well-being. However, most people rely on the internet for information, which may not have all the answers or accurate solutions. At the Driscoll Tree Service, we understand how misinformation can affect yard care and provide guidance to ensure sturdy and durable trees. Let’s examine some of the tree care myths to ensure you make informed decisions.

You Can Apply Mulch Without Limitation

Mulch is an organic material that prevents weeds, provides essential nutrients, and holds moisture during hot weather. However, excess mulch can cause more damage than good, resulting in deterioration or tree removal if necessary. Arborists and industry experts recommend applying a 2 to 4-inch layer around the base but don’t press it against the trunk. The last thing you want is an infected or infested tree on your premises because of root suffocation. Before applying mulch, consult a professional to ensure your trees make the most of the organic material added to the soil.

Paint Can Treat Tree Wounds

Another false belief is that painting wounded trees can heal them. On the contrary, painting trees cause more damage than leaving them unattended. Paint seals bacteria and other harmful organisms on the wound, leading to further deterioration and death. It is advisable to allow the tree to heal naturally, but if the situation worsens, hire a tree care company to treat the wounds. Professionals can tailor solutions to address the problem, giving you peace of mind knowing your trees are on the way to recovery.

Roots Can Interfere with Sewer Systems

secondary

This is partially true. Tree roots don’t break into the underground pipes but can enter sewer lines through breaks and leaks. Since the damage happens out of sight, routine inspections by a reputable plumber or tree service provider are crucial to detecting and addressing signs of damage before things get out of hand. Telltale signs of root infiltration include drain backups and soggy patches in your yard, prompting professional intervention.

Vines Growing Up the Tree Are Harmless

Vines growing up your tree may not raise concerns initially, but they can cause significant damage in the long run. They increase the competition for essential nutrients and water, compromising tree health and growth. In addition, vines cover the surface, blocking direct sunlight and preventing homeowners from detecting the damage underneath. Since removing vines is challenging, hire a tree care company to handle the problem.

Topping Prevents Trees from Overgrowing

Lastly, homeowners believe that topping can prevent trees from overgrowing. Cutting the crown of your trees causes significant damage and, ultimately, death if you don’t act. Topping reduces trees' ability to make food and energy, affecting growth and overall well-being. Also, the wounds left behind attract pests and diseases, which can cause premature tree removal and damage the quality of your landscape.

While the list of myths does not limit itself to the ones mentioned, you can use this information to make informed decisions about tree care. Contact us at the Driscoll Tree Service and schedule a consultation with our arborists to maintain healthy and long-lasting trees.
